Satellite internet functionality via Starshield — the military version of the SpaceX service — was being at least partially restored Thursday morning, according to a source in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
Ukraine has resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy angrily accused the United States of betraying Kyiv with a “dangerous” withdrawal of support critical to its defense against Russia.
Ukraine held off on attacks for three days after Donald Trump’s unilateral “energy ceasefire” announcement, but accused Russia of repeatedly attacking its power grid. Zelenskyy voiced mounting frustration over the Kremlin’s failure to abide by the truce, and what he sees as U.S. attempts to pressure Kyiv after gaps in intelligence sharing on Russian attacks and restrictions on the Starlink internet service.

In an interview with the Financial Times, published Thursday, Zelenskyy indicated his patience had already been exhausted.
accused Russia of repeatedly attacking its power grid
I hate how journalists use “accused” for both factual statements and lies.
This one can easily be defended by looking back 5days abcnews link
Slava Ukraini
trump got mad and turned of starshield when the yandex datacenter got hit, which apparently was holding some of his financial accounts, like crypto in.
I wonder if Trump is the most hated person on the planet right now.
I mean, https://is-he-dead-yet.com/ exists, and if you ask most people you could probably guess their guess off the top of your head lol.
i would say putin is the first, and trump comes in second.
Counterpoint - I imagine a lot of Americans (and to be fair, also Western Europeans and most of the other continents) don’t give a shit about Putin invading Ukraine, but DO care about Trump fucking them, directly or not. Trump also manages to one-up himself every week.
Idk, Putin is up there
Netanyahu is worse than both
While i think both of those people are worse than trump, trump affects more people than both of them combined.
At the behest of both of them, it’s like blaming the puppet for the puppetmaster’s show.
Do you even have to ask…
Anyone doing favors for Putin is a traitor to the West.
thats all right wing governments all over the world, hes funding them and providing free propaganda for them.
Thank you President Zelenskyy! I wish you the best of luck, skill and determination to shove that Russian fucker to a cell in Siberia.
Thanks for the data center too. Know where any more are?
Wish we had a Zelenskyy in the white House and not the festering pile of orange shit we currently have.
Y’know if we had to keep the orange part I’d be thrilled to have a literal orangutan in the seat. I’m sure they’d be smarter, more compassionate, and certainly less ghastly painful to behold with the eyes.
Wtf is with this shit expecting Ukraine to treat Russia with kid gloves? They were invaded. As far as I’m concerned they could glass Moscow and I wouldn’t give a shit. If we want Russia to be able to deliver oil we should be pressuring them to GTFO of Ukraine so Ukraine has no reason to defend themselves.
Why even entertain any other resolution?
Because Trump has unresolved daddy issues, and for whatever reason he wants Putin to acknowledge him.
moscow and st petersburg shouldve been hit from the start to be honest, its where putin base of power is.
Because Trump expects some kind of deal out of Ukraine and Russia, that will lead to a new age of prosperity, and in turn, his immortality as a president forever remembered for making America great again. Or Putin has the pee tapes, featuring underage girls, as recorded by Jeffrey Epstein, on Saint Little James.
I know why Trump’s doing it. Why everyone else though? This conflict is talked about as of it were a two way street when it was an aggressive act on the part of Russia.
Many people were full into the idea of the USSR, and still are angry that it dissolved. They see Russia as a legitimate successor and lick up their narrative.
And then there are people who don’t like Russia or war, but who are also skeptical about their own leadership in the US and NATO states. Both siders.
The Russian narrative has a good chance with these as well.
And then there’s young people who have not experienced much history themselves and are in need of orientation.
maga is literally grifters of americans united inc. they’re all grifting as much as they can and trump is their literal face on the camera.
Strategically, glassing a city wouldn’t solve anything. That just makes the people who are left want to fight harder.
Infrastructure and decapitation strikes are more effective at getting populations to stop fighting, especially when that infrastructure includes the propaganda machine.
I agree. It’s very pipedream, I know, but I want innocent Russians to be safe. I want their people to stop being thrown away by a vile madman, and their brains to stop being scrambled by bullshit State news.
I want Russians and Ukranians both to stop dying.
If pooty would direct himself to the nearest open highrise window, I’m sure he would inadvertently save countless lives, since simply stopping doesn’t seem to be on the table.
I wasn’t speaking in terms of strategy. My point was outside observers expecting a nation that’s defending themselves to hold back in any way is absurd.
Isn’t there quite a lot of infrastructure and leadership in Moscow?
st petersberg to.
Yes, but surgical strikes that leave the population alive are more effective.
Bomb the people into submission was a plan cooked up after the first world war, and was pretty stupid then as well.
The firebombing of Germany, Japan, the UK, etc. didn’t make the population less willing to fight, quite the opposite, but the defeat of a countries military, did in fact make the populations surrender.
Populations will put up with a lot when under constant attack, when their loved ones are dying in the street, but when they’re merely inconvenienced, and then their team loses, well, that breaks moral.
Also, decapitation works wonders, take out the leaders who are pushing for more war, and suddenly there’s no push for more war.
Yes… But there was a notable exception with Japan. And I’m not saying obliteration is strategically better than targeted strikes achieving the same in terms of military targets.
IIRC Japan had already internally agreed to surrender, the nuclear strikes were as much for USSR’s benefit (ie to scare them) as they were for finalising the war.
I’ll have to go back and check but my recollection is the Japanese positions shifted from
-
(position for months when the tide turned and the allies approached) “defend the home islands to the last child you can strap a bomb to” (literally, the plan included unwilling suicide bombers not just kamikaze) - kill as many million Allied troops as can be done by any means possible (including civilians attacking).
-
(A couple of days before the nukes) “Oh hell the USSR is going to get here first and that is worse than the western allies quick overturn the govt and supply surrender terms that aren’t terrible to the americans” (I’m fuzzy on exactly who possibly the rest of cabinet)
-
Americans ignore surrender offer in order to cowe USSR as well as Japan, forcing an unconditional surrender rather than the managed surrender that Japan offered, and prove the nukes really worked. (The first bomb is somewhat ethically defensible, the second quite honestly isnt from my perspective)
If anyone is a historical guru feel free to correct, it’s been years since I read it.
Key differences to the “general” story in the west is that Japan offered surrender before the nukes were dropped, and the allied command who ordered the bombing DID know. Attempts have been made to justify it as “they didn’t know that japan was willing to surrender - it was a comms gap”. The desire to intimidate the USSR was also not released until decades later
Edit to add “western” in front of allies in point 2 - USSR were indeed our allies at that point, although there was a plan, and serious consideration to do so, to keep rolling East from Berlin after Germany surrendered

Remember when conservatives hated Russia until their programming was changed?
No values beyond bigotry. No consistency beyond stupidity.
Remember when a certain Fox News contributor who goes on TV saying we should be at war with Iran to prevent them from having missiles was charged with illegally selling missiles to Iran in trade for keeping Americans hostage until after the 1980 election?
Woahoooha damn…which of their clowns was this?? Sounds a touch before my time.
Thanks for the sauce.
Jaw. Dropped. Wow. They can really just get away with anything, can’t they?
Technically he did the treason first, and then got hired by Fox to justify his treason.
Read his first wife died two years ago and he married the woman he shredded documents with a year later. 🤦🏻♂️
We should probably tell the whole story. Not to justify his actions, but he did the treason because the President told him to.
It was like a fucking light switch.
Because they’re immoral. They’re lesser men.
Because Russia is no longer a communist country despised by conservatives, but a country larping as conservative that pay lip service to American conservatives to destabilise the West.
Conservatism is and always has been an attempt to return to a form of feudalism, with the rich being the new nobility and everyone else being powerless to resist. In that regard, Russia with its oligarchs is about as conservative as it comes.
someone likened texas is closer to russia, since oligarchs/abbot, practically controls the whole state
Probably similar power grid reliability stats and winter casualties, too.
No. Conservatism can be that and can be skepticism to idealism in all forms.
The Russian example would be the popular belief of some people that presidential power should be made stronger in the 90s, and then of some other people that everything western is just better from the root and larping is enough, and then of another group of people that they can take modern (by year 2012) Russia’s common idea of “respectable” and “cool” and make it compatible with honesty and justice and their own survival.
The American example would be - well, I think Fox News is good enough, what they started with was (of what I’ve read) the typical American idea of “alternative” and “anti-establishment”, which is good in itself, just believing that there’s a side offering that or that there’s a way to move the world in that direction radically, - these are dangerous idiocies.
The “youthly liberal modern” idea of cool of 2010s in the social media, that I’ve recently remembered, is too a good example. When virtually all of the crowd was uncritically accepting that people at whom corporate policies point and say “they are homophobes, extremists and what’s the worst of all - uncool”, are really that.
One meaning of the word “conservatism” is being skeptical of such things. One can be conservative-left. It’s just that people don’t like nuance.
There’s obviously nothing anti establishment and counter cultural about fox news. These are demagogues with budgets of millions of USD and with a large viewership.
How they stylize their reactionary bs is almost meaningless. It’s surface level.
The point remains: they have nothing beyond bigotry and stupidity and these are the only constants.
Yeah, “they” matters not about the source, but about what the audience thinks.
It doesn’t matter what lies they buy into. There’s no such thing as a “conservative lefty” or whatever you wrote earlier.
They bought into some culture war issue that’s in the end meaningless.
It’s not important to be able to discriminate against trans people but they want to do that and are willing to accept a whole bundle of reactionary policies along with it.
I’m pretty sure that just means “conservative” doesn’t mean anything.
Well, all words have different semantics depending on the context and would have none without context. Doesn’t say much.
We’re not talking about words, we’re talking about political ideology. A communist is a communist, a liberal is a liberal, a fascist is a fascist, these ideologies aren’t context dependent. There are different kinds of communists and liberals and fascists etc etc but they’re all recognizably part of the same ideological family with a clear historical tradition, no matter the time period or country.
Conservatives can be so radically different in different contexts that it’s not really useful as a descriptor. It’s like saying someone is extreme or moderate or revolutionary or something, its so context dependent that it tells you practically nothing without the context.
Semantics can be playing with words, are sure you’re not doing that?
Beware of the media you consume, it exists to shape you. Including this comment.
I don’t remember that, no.
Starlink needs to be nationalised… Or … Um… UNised?
It’s kind of going on the reverse. The US is kind of being subsumed into Musk Inc.
Go go go!
Good. Trump has been playing both sides and half assing this thing from the start. He clearly doesn’t have the balls to make Papa Putin do anything.
But also, why would Ukraine follow orders from America when Trump BLATANTLY BACK STABBED THEM. It would be unhinged for us to expect Ukraine to listen to us ever again
He’s helping Putin quite a bit because they’re allies. Not playing both sides, just play pretend.

He’s not playing both sides, he has clear preference. He just doesn’t have the card’s.
He doesn’t have them because Putin has them on a shelf.
Employees usually don’t make demands of their employers. The instructions only flow from Russia to the GOPedos

hopefully europe will provide what the orange TRAITOR took away
Musk should be tried for the deaths he causes by playing those games.
Lemmy called it the moment Trump falsely claimed there was an energy infrastructure cease fire.
(If other communities foresaw it I may just not be aware - I don’t mean to say others didn’t see the obvious, too)
