Denmark’s foreign minister has expressed cautious optimism about an agreement with the United States over Greenland in the wake of Donald Trump's announcement of a deal to bolster American military presence on the island.
Denmark and the U.S. already have a long-standing security agreement that has allowed the U.S. to deploy forces in Greenland, and it was not immediately clear how this deal was different from that.
It’s possible this is one of those nothinburger ‘yuge deals’ he likes to parade around to stroke his own ego and make his cult cheer.
Based on what has been said so far I wonder if the main benefit was tying the agreement to Greenland instead of Denmark, so that it would remain in place even if they gained independence.

I mean without the public having seen the deal yet, from what it seems like, the deal contains the exact same thing as the last deal from 1951. So basically exactly that. But hey, he can try to spin it as a win to his base.
