Mereo is a sociologist who is also a nerd. He believes in open-source software.
I transferred to this instance from https://lemmy.ca/. My previous profile: https://lemmy.ca/u/Mereo

Because you can buy something like this Sata drive enclosure: https://a.co/d/004sj6TS, and power it with a small ATX power supply.
You can power the drives using a standard PC power supply. You can also use a switch like this one to power them: https://ebay.io/m/jRSozI
Caddy runs on Windows so someone could use it for reverse proxy.

You definitely can if you put Immich behind a reverse proxy like Caddy and open it up to the rest of the world. I also protect my instance against bots with Crowdsec. That’s how share albums with family and friends.

In this case, however, we’re talking about streaming platforms, which are pretty much universal across state lines.

No need:
Given the Golden State’s massive sway in the entertainment industry, the new law may strong-arm streamers into shushing commercials nationwide.

I currently locally host the vault, but I’m realizing that this could cause problems for my family if something were to happen to me. While not technologically inept, if my server at home crashed they would have no idea how to access it, and they would lose all of the passwords.
This is why I refuse to host critical services for friends and family. Many of my friends and family use my Jellyfin server because if something happens to the TV shows and movies, it’s not a big deal. But passwords? No thank you.
Indeed, AI is a tool, and the human should be an expert who verify its work. What I don’t like are posts about apps that are completely vibe-coded without any thought put into them, which pose dangerous security risks.

I suggest that you try Bazzite instead. As of now, SteamOS doesn’t support Nvidia.

8 GB is NOT fine in Windows 11. I had to install Linux on my father’s laptop that has 8G GB so that it becomes useful. Technically speaking because Windows 11 is so bloated, 16 GB should remain the baseline.

If you don’t mind me asking, to which career did you switch to?

That makes sense. Software engineers have gone from being artists (because yes, software architecture is an art) to becoming AI managers. It’s demoralising.
I believe open-source software will continue to provide a refuge for artists.

Morocco is now Europe’s Down Under.
The important part:
So, we’ve eliminated DNS query fees entirely.
Bunny DNS no longer charges for DNS queries and includes free DNS hosting for up to 500 domains per account. There are no query limits, no per-request billing, and no critical features hidden behind enterprise plans. (Yes, that includes smart records and health monitoring too.)
As with all bunny.net services, accounts using the platform are subject to our standard $1/month minimum spend, but DNS itself no longer incurs any usage-based charges.
Basically it costs $1 per month. They no longer charge per requests, it’s now unlimited.

Indeed. Paradoxically, it was the US’s decision to limit exports of CPUs and GPUs that gave China the push it needed to stop relying on American technology and focus on becoming independent.
China in 2026 is not the same country as it was before. It is now a technological and R&D powerhouse.
The ones that come to my mind that you can install from APT are:

I selfhost Vaultwarden on my server. I use the Bitwarden client to access my passwords.
Great advice.
