Chiming in to say oasis not only made my WMR kit work without Mixed Reality Portal Garbage, but it’s more responsive and tracks better with it. It’s incredible. I’m on 10 LTSC IoT which Oasis’s doesn’t technically support and it works flawlessly. Amazing.

What do you mean, like the recording thing? You can easily disable it, but I DO want it! I want it so badly! But I don’t wait it constantly writing to an SSD or HDD.

I think 16GB of RAM would be sufficient for most any game computer to do it this way—I’d allocate like .75 to 1GB on my 16GB machines.

My main game computer has 32, so I allocated 2GB since I never come close to touching it!

I was looking at the RAM drive’s properties in Wandows and was giggling after clicking on the “ReadyBoost” tab. Gotta use that RAM drive as a buffer between RAM and SSDs!

Meanwhile I don’t like the software that saves a rolling three minutes of gameplay so I can instantly save anything cool that happens because I don’t want my SSDs constantly being written, so I just have it load the temp file into drive emulated by RAM instead. Don’t touch my SSDs!

Listen to his music, too! It’s amazing! I’ve seen him a few times and one time the equipment at the festival didn’t work so he just improvised his whole set. He was insanely good at it. So much vocoder, it was delightful!

I agree that 2k+ is far too much money for what it is, but if you think it won’t be completely sold out instantly in Canada…

90s Civics were notoriously easy to steal, so I’d definitely want something to prevent that.

When I was younger, I’d always dreamed of having a nice sound system in my car, but could never afford to do it. Now that I have a car with a super nice sound system and a sub, I can never go back. No “infotainment” BS tho, just gimme a standard deck. USB support is nice, but an aux jack is all I really need.

Shoot, my VR machine is about 13 years old with original CPU, RAM, and HDD! It has my old SSD now and a newer video card (2070) so it can play rhythm games at 90-120FPS.

My oldest working (working for tasks I’d actually use a computer for, not retro fun) computer is 15 years old! MacBook Pro. I need to get Linux installed on it. That’s a project for… eventually.

I have a kitty that purrs so loudly, you can hear him meters away. I joke that he steals another of our kitties’ purrs, who is mostly silent.

Sometimes I just pick silent baby up and hold him to my ear like giant two-handed telephone, and I can hear him softly.

Alas, all of my headphones are open-back or earbuds/IEMs, but if I get some closed-back I’ll try it!

Are there like… forums on I2P? Like… good ones, where people talk about hobbies and maybe they’re moderated well enough? Or is that just 2001-Me’s insanely wishful thinking? Forums used to be my favorite thing on the internet until they mostly kinda went away.

Is that even possible to have that anymore? Something seemed to fundamentally change when smartphones made the internet accessible to everyone, not just the kind of people whose interests involve sitting at a computer all day.

I’ve heard Apple TV is great, but I can’t bring myself to use a limited device for media at home… I recently replaced our raspberry pi media players with a levovo tinys that I got for a steal (under 100USD each, i5/16/256!) because my partner uses YouTube while working and I can’t bear to have ads playing in the house. Got a PiHole but that doesn’t work on sites where the ads are served from their own servers. If I was going to get any box thingy to play media at this point though, it’d for sure be an appletv—they seem the most polished and least invasive of any premade box like that.

Awwwh, I’m so sorry you had a bad experience D: that sucks ass! You really gotta ease your way into VR. I played short bursts of games that don’t require moving much until I got more comfy. Then I played moving-around games using a program called NaLo, which lets you swing your arms at your sides or in front of you to walk, which really helped me get used to ambulation! Now I’m totally comfy moving around smoothly, but it took some getting used to for sure.

The only tech I wanna wear on my face for an extended period of time are VR kits, but I’m mostly playing music games and I’ve been quite sedentary for a long while so I have to work back up to “extended periods of time” D:

Right now I’ve got a good half hour to an hour of high level play and I’m rekt. I used to be able to go for a few hours at least… I don’t think I could even do multiple hours of walking around Skyrim anymore.

You’re 100% correct. I have mechanical vapes—no safety cutoff, just an 18650 in a conductive tube with wire coils attached to posts. They’re amazing, and they’re extremely dangerous. Turning one into a protected vape with basic features like wattage adjustment? Way cheaper and easier to go SoC!
