Found the racoon

Seems you haven’t read past the headline any time you’ve encountered this.
In the industry I work in, I would end up on the street if I only worked four days a week.
In the industry you work in, your employer would be required to raise your hourly rate such that you would be paid the same as you were in the old scheme. The same thing happened when 40 hour work weeks were mandated.
What about teachers? Are students only supposed to attend school four days a week? There are not enough teachers to run multiple overlapping schedules throughout the week.
https://www.edweek.org/leadership/the-4-day-school-week-what-research-shows-about-the-alternative-schedule/2026/04 Academically, there is little difference in a 4 vs 5 day instruction week, but certain non-academic markers improve, including teacher retention rates.
What about competition? Are we going to prohibit companies from operating five days a week? If one company switches to four days, another will simply step in and say, “We’ll work five.”
The main driver of a 4 day week is that people are at least as productive in those four days, and have more time to live their lives - leading to them being more rested and able to be more productive. There are already companies using a 32-hour workweek and are quite successful. If this is adopted on a large-scale, companies clinging to a 40-hour week simply will not be able to compete in recruiting quality workers.
As long as our economy remains based on scarcity, there will be no universal four-day work week.
As long as rubes like you believe that you just have to grind harder and your millions will come, there will be no four-day week
Now go ahead and downvote me and tell me how great socialism is.
Go ahead and downvote me and tell me how much you love the taste of boot. Maybe also read up on how McCarthy created a propaganda system to denigrate socialism and communism to enrich corporate America at your expense.

This rewards the owner and punishes the worker.

How dare the leopards eat MY face!?

Sounds like calling conservatives retards is accurate based on the dictionary definition of the word…

don’t forget decades of breathing aerosolized lead!

Any work I do on my house I do to code (and I do look it up when starting a new project). The previous owner… not so much - I found newspaper wrapped around electrical junction boxes, because wires never get hot enough to light old, super dry newspaper on fire…

This is their strategy, they want people to use it, get hooked, replace parts of their day-to-day life with it, make it to difficult to “just go back”, then hit them with the actual bill.
They won’t go bankrupt unless their backers walk, and their backers are still quite confident in this strategy… because it’s working.

Your AC turns itself off and on repeatedly through it’s normal running cycle to prevent frost building up - your fridge and freezer does this as well.

Note how the government isn’t going after gun ownership as vehemently as they are digital privacy. They know that it doesn’t matter how many guns the people have, if they can’t communicate anonymously (or at all), then any sort of uprising will be small and easily quashed.

Used incorrectly and without caution, yes. It can be made to be very useful if proper guardrails are in place and if the LLM is carefully guided in the task it’s performing.
This means, that one should only use an LLM for something they are already quite familiar with doing without an LLM’s assistance. Most people will not be doing this however (or in the case of Google’s “summaries”, unable to as they are not fully in control of the session), and this is where the problem arise.

The government and media has spent those decades undermining education and vilifying “being smart”. Of course they’re champing at the bit now to insert an always-on personalized propaganda machine in place of that missing intelligence.

I’ll trust the links if I trust the sites it’s linking to. Any other links are viewed with skepticism at least initially until I’ve vetted the site in question.

A fair number of internal walls are also thick brick or concrete. In warmer climates it helps keep the building cool from thermal mass, it’s also sturdier for places prone to hurricanes.

just be cautious with power supply, a failure could crater the whole system.

What needs to happen is:
an enforceable certification process, like part of FMVSS, to state “this vehicle is certified as L[0-5] self driving per https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/2022-05/Level-of-Automation-052522-tag.pdf”. Put the certification on the window sticker. Have it reported to insurance.
Levels 0-2 cannot be advertised as self driving, even though there may be hands-free driving capability in some limited cases. The driver remains fully responsible and liable (no change to current liability rules essentially)
Levels 3 and 4 will be required to have shared liability with the driver and manufacturer in all conditions where the vehicle is in control of itself. This includes roads that the vehicle should be able to navigate autonomously and the driver has requested it to, but it is not for any reason.
Level 5 would place liability on the manufacturer solely, as there is no indicated driver in this case. This is the only one that can be advertised as “self-driving”.

“ban pronouns” energy here

Which is funny, because at times they do glow, but it’s blue (cherenkov radiation)

TBF, the switch is a mechanical part that goes through a series of stresses, not just from the person actuating it, but also from the electrical forces causing the switch to bounce and arc for several ms before it settles. Putting all that stress into a little package with tiny contact wafers, and it’s bound to fail sooner or later.
