They do usually “grow” “up” but i agree, even encourage this dynamic.

Part of (what i would call “real”) maturity is recognising when it’s ok to stop acting mature and just have fun.

Maturity is realising there is no such thing as an adult but still behaving like one at specific times because you understand that that is the better way to get things done in that setting.

Everyone grows up, many people can behave in an adult way (including children), but actually maturity often still feels rare.

I don’t know how many employees the m365 platform needs to serve but where i work there are multiple dedicated teams to manage it all.

But we also do have hundreds of unique functions and roles that all need their own set of rights and permissions with regular audits wether permissions are to loose/underused.

No one in IT has local admin anymore but we do have a (logged) way to temporary elevate ourselves to local admin when needed.

Brave has been known to inject their own referral links in people urls.

Duck duck go serves bing results and has to give Microsoft special acces to do so.

The actual alternatives are:

Firefox based browsers (waterfox, librefox)

Self hosted searxng for search-engine. This one will get results from all possible configurable engine and allow zero trackers.

Notable mention: self hosting isn’t for everyone, startpage.net is to google what ddg is to bing, but it hasn’t had any scandals proving that they give special acces to google yet. Still self hosting is not that hard with docker, i do recommend a local searxng.
