it’s probably impossible to get downvotes to be anything other than agree/disagree buttons at this point, but I like to dream of a world where it’s for contributes-to-productive-conversation/mindless-nonsense-or-hate-speech.
Downvotes should only be for posts like
lol this ^I’ve never been able to imagine a system that could convince random users to use it like that, though.

“Overall, studies on acrylamide and cancer in humans show that the amounts of acrylamide we consume probably doesn’t increase the risk of cancer significantly. If you have a healthy, balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruit, pulses (such chickpeas) and wholegrains (such as brown rice), the amount of acrylamide you eat will be small.”

44·10 months agoif someone comes up with an alternative way to use a bunch of that infrastructure to make money, I bet they could get a lot of business when the AI bubble pops and suddenly these datacenters are desperate to find a use for themselves

there is an automatic cutting device used to make crafts projects and the only way to run it is with its manufacturer’s software which only runs on windows
I tried to get it to work on Linux and had mixed success just getting it to start, but it failed miswrably at trying to communicate over the USB connection to the device no matter what I did
the only thing that worked was running a windows VM with VirtualBox and that got the connection to work but the experience of operating it became poor so until that device dies or the app gets Linux support (neither happening soon) at least one machine must be windows, and right now getting another PC is prohibitively expensive
