  • The subtext I read in this was that opinions are more important than facts and that reporting on the poll results

It’s also about driving engagement, a vibes based article about a poll will have a lot more engagement when its shared around social media. Sure you’d still have some people arguing and engaging regalardless, but a large and very vocal portion of the internet has been trained now to just ignore facts that don’t fit their narrative as being funded by George Soros or similar such non-sense, they see a title like “data driven research shows economic conditions worsening in key areas” they skip over it as boring and too complicated to understand, but if they see a title saying americans “feel” a certain way, then they as an american (or someone pretending to be american) can chime in about how they personally dont feel that way and anyone who does feel that way is lazy and stupid, and then it becomes a whole chain of people doing that and others citing factual data which then gets ignored.

  • This kind of stuff is inevitable with capitalism, in their continuing effort to make human workers obsolete and save money it makes perfect sense to replace static paper displays with digital ones. I would assume the only reason they didn’t do it any soon is the up front costs.

Dynamic pricing is of course a real concern, but its not like you can’t do dynamic pricing with paper labels, it just takes more effort (and so the prices will probably reflect that as they change). It’s neat how we call it “dynamic pricing” now. but like when it happens in other places its called Hyperinflation, are there still some people foolish enough to think “dynamic” means it could go down also?

  • I think thats a good position to have, if librewolf works for you i hope it continues to do so.

I used to be more of an open source purist but recent and not so recent events have shifted my thinking, it seems to be one of the four freedoms is regularly taken advantage of by corporations and should be reconsidered. Not that we as individuals shouldnt have those freedoms, but for-profit corps specifically have proven time and time again that they will only take and never give back.

  • Its just as open source as the other chromium based browsers

    https://vivaldi.com/source/

They also have very valid reasons for keeping the features that make the UI unique closed, seeing how many open source projects like ffmpeg get completely taken advantage of its a smart move.

Youll find that parts of brave arent actually open source either, such as their built in AI or the build in crypto wallet.

At some point you gotta ask if its worth having open source purity tests when even the flagship products are shoveling AI and other garbage no one wants into their browser.

Librewolf might pass that purity test for now, but without mozilla librewolf likely would not continue, vivaldi does not have this problem.
