  • Since I run both Docker and Plex Media Server, atomic spins aren’t really a good option for me. The way they interact with certain system files is pretty much incompatible with an immutable distro. The number of workarounds that I would have to employ in order to get it all to work would be a gigantic headache and would pretty much undo any advantage I would gain.

Also, I really don’t like cosmic desktop. I used to use PopOS, and I was very excited for it, but when they switched to it, it just really wasn’t ready, and I still don’t think it’s ready yet. Plus it offers no framework for extensions or plug-ins yet. I far prefer GNOME, and GNOME 51 got some massive performance improvements. Plus, it looks almost exactly like macOS, which I really like.

  • New? Exciting? That’s not the fedora experience. Fedora is boring and stable. And that’s the whole point of it. It’s extremely well designed and extremely well-made and it just works. It’s not trying to impress anyone with some flashy new feature that might make the system unstable or unreliable in anyway, and it’s not trying to make some flashy changes to the interface that people have to constantly adjust to.

Nope. Stable, reliable, and boring that’s what I love about it. Lol.

I’ve got it installed on my 2011 iMac that use as a plex server. Runs great.

Gnome 51 certainly came with some performance improvements that were very noticeable on my very very old server, but others might not have noticed on a more modern machine.

  • It’s a little more complicated than that. It’s not just a matter of net gains and losses of seats, it also is important to consider which races were one by Democrats. They were all in very important districts in the states. Not to mention that the losses were within a hair. They were all extremely close, not something we had in 2024. It’s a very strong indicator that the entire country is swinging back to the left.

Take Florida for example: Democrats lost both the governor’s race and the Senators race, but they were very very very very close. The last time those seats were up for election, there was a pretty big gap between Democrats and Republicans. Not so much anymore. Plus, in Florida, we picked up three Democratic house seats, two of which were in gerrymandered districts, yet Dems won anyway.

I remember the last time Florida was a blue state… It was a much better place to live. And although we have a GOP governor and senators, the rest of the state is definitely shifting back to the left. A lot. 2028 will be extremely interesting indeed.

  • Well, I think it’s a matter of legislative priorities: do the Democrats want to blow their wad using their control of Congress to try to get Trump impeached and then removed? It would be a monumental effort with little chance of meaningful success.

Most Democrats believe it would be a much better expenditure of resources, instead, blow that wad dragging literally everyone else in the Trump administration before an investigative committee and possibly impeaching and prosecuting them instead. There is so very much to go after all of them for, that it would be a real waste of time and effort to let everyone else go just so they could go after Trump and probably not succeed in getting him removed.

Not to mention that it would be far easier to prosecute and possibly jail Trump after he is out of office.
