It’s weird to have something in common with a Republican Senator.

I have trans people in my life that I very much fear for, most especially under Republican “leadership”. However, if a Democrat isn’t giving full-throated support for “men in women’s sports”, I don’t consider that the same as throwing trans under the bus. The candidate may need to evolve on that on particular thing, but then so does most of the American population (75% have reservations about transgender females in women’s sports).

Engaging in right wing talking points and transphobic framing of them is in fact, transphobic, whether or not the candidate has any particular hate in their hearts about it. In fact, it’s about the easiest thing to deflect and redirect to a solid issue with something like “I trust that our state and local sports associations are best positioned to make and define rules that are appropriate for their sport as they have done for decades, but what I am worried about is the rising cost of living.”

If one is willing to cede to conservatives on that, what is the next thing they are willing to cave on? Bathroom use? Heathcare? Civil rights?

Blue no matter who, because you’ve got to be reasonable about these things, and we can only fight one meaningful front at a time. We don’t want a repeat of 2 years ago.

What is unreasonable about not wanting candidates to cede entirely to conservative talking points? If they don’t want to engage on trans issues, they can always redirect. If they think that they’re winning more votes by taking actively anti-trans positions then why is it incumbent of trans people and their allies to vote against their interests and not on the candidates to adopt a position that doesn’t abandon folks?

In a saner world, they would partner with technology and information security watchdogs, get briefs, and advice on how to approach issues and tackle things in a way that are forward thinking and updatable.

While most Democratic officials remain steadfast supporters of the transgender community, an increasing number in red and blue states are distancing themselves from their party’s unflinching support for the transgender community’s policy priorities, such as allowing athletes to compete on teams that match their gender identity.

This is an extremely dishonest and inaccurate framing.

So that’s just it, progress can’t be made if the Democrats concede to anti-trans talking points. What’s worse is it will give way to anti-trans bills that would have been a party line vote to seeing bipartisan support.

In general, I’m just very tired of being told to grin and bear the less bad choice, the imperfect ally and the slow erosion of my rights because it could always be worse or because it’s not politically viable or because these things take time. I’m tired of my needs being the inconvenient disposable ones. I’m tired of these conversations that seem to have just turned into simple tone conversations where people don’t read the words and emotions and just make snap judgements and dump a bunch of rhetoric.

You know what? Let’s go. If all you have to offer is a slightly kinder abuser, march me to the Republican death camps, at least I know they just want me dead and don’t want to fundraise off of my continued suffering and browbeat me into supporting them as my only option.

What an absolutely condescending response. A majority of Democrats that have conceded to Republican positions is no better or worse for me than Republicans. Overall, and long term, it is a much more damaging position for the Democrats to cede civil rights positions.

Think of the big picture.

This is the big picture. If we allow them to capitulate on human rights, there is no coming back from that.

Damn, like the one person they deported that they probably should have sent to a Liberian prison?

They don’t even have to do that. They can just do what my local politicians do and schedule it at the end of the meeting, limit testimony to 4 or so people, ignore that there’s hundreds of others that came to speak and 90% registered as opposed and then hastily vote and adjourn.

Epstein’s estate? There should be no fucking estate, burn that shit to the ground and salt the earth so nothing grows again.

Even more obvious solution: Let people use the bathroom.
