The arctic does not free Russia from being a continental, rather than maritime, power. Their geopolitics and imperial identity is dominated by mountain and river and plains borders, and destabilizing or annexing the powers at their borders. The arctic is inaccessible except for some baltic access dominated by maritime nations.

Word 5.1a was all the word processor we ever needed.
Get mad at individuals seeking the path of least resistance in their complicated lives about an important but not urgent issue.
Issue is actually a structural issue.
Divide and oligarch wins again, good job!

Well, BF4 still has an active player base at least!

I was just about to hold my nose and buy Battlefield 6, then they did that.

This is now way off thread, but all the proportions look wrong on that car.
Here’s a very boxy car where the lines flow together and it aged well (1988):

The Chevy Spark is uglycute, and a Daewoo in origin. So they tried to gloss up their design game… but made frog cars.

I know you are asking rhetorically, but I think it’s a good question, because I believe he is sincere about this particular statement.
Aside from the fact that he is a neo-neo-Lib, and undoubtedly a friend of the elites, he has three constituencies: his electoral district, the general populace and the Party, and Capital. Capital is higher up in the pyramid, and he can’t just yoink our government and canadian business out of existing contracts and obligations. When the talk of a rupture in geopolitics comes up it doesn’t mean total.
A lot of conservatives, and Capital is conservative, believe that USA fascism isn’t as bad as you do, and that it’s temporary anyway and we’ll get back to normal in a few years. “Smart” money will invest on a 20-year timeframe.
So a commingled NA economy is inevitable in that view. Adding resilience to idiocracy is the actual “rupture”.

If my clients who rely on computer use to obtain money are reluctant to learn even the basics, if I can get away with it, I will say “imagine your home builders didn’t know the difference between a nail or screw? Learn file types, it’s your screws and nails. Now imagine your bus driver doesn’t understand road markings?”

Other primates seem to have a similar sense of it, so check out some of those ethology studies for starting from very basic principles of commonality.

There are some near-universals.
You don’t need to share any server technology names, just that it’s the Matrix protocol or “platform”, or even just “Element” if they are using that app. I don’t tell other matrix users they are on a Synapse server.
Only the host needs to know about the server app name, and is the only one who interacts with it directly.

I’m grey (but still working), and old genX, people my age often retire. I play First Person shooters, mainly. About 12h per week on Destiny 2, all PVP, currently. Destiny is nigh-dead so I’m looking for a replacement soon.
Not a lot of indie games doing that genre well, sadly. I was going to play battlefield 6 then looked at ownership… EA was a nasty company from the beginning but is now owned by Jared the Lich Kushner and some Saudi oilymoney. Woof.

I’m pretty sure the sigh is not disparaging, but pointed at how you are correct about atrazine, and that in itself is a sad fact for all of us.

I’m using it generally, to refer to skills, knowledge, and understanding of industries and other economic topics, per the thread. We are seeing disrupted chains of knowledge and experience, what amounts to an abdication of tradition, and a surrender of economic power. These specific epistemological systems are the fabric of civilization.

It’s almost like people don’t realize that epistemologies have a time dimension that needs to be sustained to persist.
That epistemologies have a body, which is human behaviour.
The fuckin’ Morlocks are trying to conjure the singularity by a massive and rapid capture of the function of those epistemologies, in code that is now commodified and alienated, before their “only disrupt” ethos pulls the technological rug from under them and us completely.

Weellll, unless you live out in the sticks on an island and all there is is long throw 2.4GHz wifi as your internet connection, at least when the weather cooperates and the rinkydink ISP has staff actually on the job. Then wifi is also a utility level service.
Like satellite internet for some. Hmm I know another equally misanthropic smug techbro who wants to privatize an entire utility sector… Had to set up a SStarlink system for someone recently. Had to make very sure the homeowners understand why we bridged the SStarlink router.
Not really, seems like a pretty typical to industrialize manufacturing process, and it sounds like it’s pretty forgiving in the range of plastics recycled as well, reducing sorting.
I expect if they produce these in inexpensive, medium sizes, that a notable percentage of remote communities would get together and run this sort of thing locally.
