People would pay $500-$1000 to surrender their dogs, presumably to pay for food and vet services until they could be adopted. Instead, it seems like this place was regularly telling the previous owners that the dogs were being adopted, killing the dogs, and pocketing the money.

Based on the comments from the articles in that link, Shannon Miranda is a man and the rescue has been in operation for like 30 years, so it’s not clear how long this has been going on.

For what it’s worth, here’s an interview with the Miranda. I think he’s full of shit, but it seems like a legal mess without much precedent. Animal rescues are apparently largely unregulated, and it’s not illegal to euthanize via shooting a dog in the head in California. I would guess he’ll be taken in for fraud at minimum considering he’s advertised as a no kill shelter the whole time.

It’s even stupider than that. She opted out of the body scan for a pat down and then got upset that it took longer. Another layer of stupidity is that she says she opted out because she’s pregnant and was worried about radiation exposure from the scan, yet she’s apparently ignorant that its radiation dose would be significantly less than exposure to cosmic radiation from the flight itself.

Now, I don’t expect people to know exposure levels from different radiation hazards offhand. I actually looked it up out of curiosity after reading the article. But, I think it’s reasonable for a pregnant person that’s worried specifically about radiation to know stuff like this. Feels like fake outrage and grift on her part, tbh.

That said, I won’t be bummed if this brings down the TSA somehow.

If your job is causing you enough mental anguish to go through with suicide, it’s reasonable to suggest you find another. That goes for any job.
