Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Subjectivity makes most idealistic people feel that they are a realists and most realistic people feel they are a pessimistic.
2·15 hours agoThat’s essentially what I’m saying, yeah. Its the relationship a “realistic” person has with ideas held/shared by an “idealistic”. That’s what gives the “realist” the idea that they must just be a pessimist.

politics @lemmy.world•UFC to pay White House fighters in crypto issued by Trump company
5·9 days agoYeah they were talking about crypto.com throwing in a million and another company (maybe ram?) Throwing in another 400k for additional bonuses. This was at the press conference a few days ago, maybe the one a month ago too. Standard performance of the night/fight of the night is 50k (recently changed to 100k) so the million extra is on top of that. Everyone is still paid whatever is in their contract in USD as well as whatever initial bonus in USD. I guess the additional million will be split between Topuria and Gaethje based on last night’s post fight presser. I think Gane is also getting a portion of the extra bonus. Every winner got an additional 25k on top of their win bonus (if win bonuses are in their contract) as well according to Dana at the press conference. I watched the majority of the press for this card, as I do with all the cards. I didn’t see that the fucking Trump’s were involved in the crypto aspect. Fucking poisoning everything they touch. So mad this is how many people are being introduced to the sport. Fucking embarrassing.

3·24 days agoI’d imagine if the tech gets there it will be so heavily subsidized (at least in the US) that cost won’t be a huge concern. Plus if its producing a useful biproduct that might be a decent revenue booster.

5·24 days agoI sure hope so. I work in electricity generation (not coal) and I see this being potentially massive for all fuel types. Depending on if/how it can be scaled. Combined cycle was huge for emissions reduction. But this could be a completely new level if we can reduce to zero/near zero and have a useful byproduct.

11·24 days agoThat would be an incredible innovation. You don’t have to stop at coal either, it’s just the dirtiest. Nat gas, trash, oil, wood and anything else burned on a huge scale could be curbed.

6·24 days agoEmpty the landfills, burn the waste, generate electricity and eat all the carbon emissions. No idea if it’s feasible in the future but it sure would be an incredible advancement.

Ohhhh, in that case I completely disagree with your sentiment. We have different definitions of these terms. But that’s fine. I equate the term realist with pragmatist.
