I had to laugh, I had F-droid comment when I shared my article (about me recommending Droid-ify)

I just play Steam Deck and write about gaming + Linux a lot

Feel free to send me a DM if you’d like :)

They do so much, and cover so many important ‘system’ or default included Android apps, I swear by Fossify! Was very glad to see someone keep on going and fork Simple Mobile Tools!

Amen!
The respecting a user’s privacy is the key point for me. If I have an Android phone, it has to have alternative apps from a space like F-droid :)

I’ve tried so many Mastodon clients, Tusky is a close second, but Mastodon’s own official build just remains my fav.
But I have never seen nor heard of Moshidon, I’ll check it out now, thanks!

This is a small follow-up to my recent F-Droid-focused article, this time highlighting some of the apps I enjoy most from the platform.
From the unusual and fun (birding, anyone?) to the useful, these are the apps that keep me coming back. F-Droid is a powerhouse of options for Android users, offering a huge range of open-source software that is often far more respectful of your privacy and data than mainstream alternatives.

Absolutely, feel free to send me a direct message here!

In a fashion! Here you go:
https://github.com/RJNY/Obtainium-Emulation-Pack
You don’t need the full lot of apps, just pick and choose what you want and need! When there is an update to it, Obtainium will fetch and install it for you!

You know what, I think I shall!
I appreciate it :)

OH that’s really nice to hear!
Are you loving it? I still have mine on my shelf each and every day. Right now it is playing Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album. But I mean…also for games. So happy to hear it helped you!

If you’re open to it, there are seas to sail where you can download said APK and run it without issue. Not a 100% fix since some don’t, but I have others which did and do!

As Axolotl said below, make sure you use F-droid to search for Droidify. It looks and behaves far nicer than plain old F-droid and gives you many more options!
And enjoy, I’m so glad my article helped at least one person find new things out there :) :) :)

I avoid it like the plague.
My main personal phone is on GrapheneOS, and my work phones are as basic as possible with what they run. The only time I really ever spend on Play Store (and even then I tend to use Obtainium instead) is for when I review retro handhelds which emulate.
F-droid/Izzy and so on have everything we need!

I just realized -__-
Worst reflection of my lack of research there. I did just add a callout in the intro reflecting my own idiocy on that front (there’s no excuses)
You’re right!

Thank you very much!

LG G6 with Quad-DAC!

I’m more than happy to ask e1K what he recommends you look at to get started, if you’d like?!

e1000 doesn’t do interviews. Doesn’t share his creations on a site or blog or GitHub, just occasionally on Discord or (more rarely these days) Reddit.
He only did this because we had friends in common like Gamma (GAMMAOS) and klops (PortMaster), bmdhacks (ex-PS2 dev and PortMaster genius) and so on saying I’m trustworthy to share his story.
Most of what we chatted about in the article weren’t known before now. Among his friends, he is known for not going for the spotlight.

After getting to know e1K, and chatting to him for a few weeks I feel pretty confident in my own word choices. I’d prefer it if I wasn’t judged for it on the merits of others using that same word, but I guess there’s nothing I can do about that. Knowing e1K and becoming friends with him, and being the one who literally interviewed him about his life and work? Yes. I’d say he is quiet about his mods.
I just use a VPN server from my own country, which is annoying.
Then switch back to elsewhere when I’m not here.
Sorry for the miscommunication! I’m Gardiner’s friend, dash. Together he and I run the site linked here, but Gardiner’s videos are all 100% his side! If you asked me to film and or edit a video to save my life, I’d have to start digging my own grave because all of that is pure sorcery to me!
