politics @lemmy.world•I Went to Trump’s Great American State Fair. It Was Bleaker Than I Expected. - Washingtonian
131·10 hours agoI step into the food hall, where I see a single vendor: Express Hibachi, which is an unusual name for a purveyor of personal pizzas and chicken Caesar salads. I skip the dining and head straight for the beverage stand. At this moment, I realize it’s all over: The only available lemonade is Minute Maid, sold by the plastic bottle. Feeling bamboozled and stupid for believing that I might find something beautiful at this garish perversion of an American tradition, I consider purchasing three $14 Cutwaters and passing out in the middle of the grass. But I already appear to be emanating a demonic energy to my fellow fairgoers, so I settle on a $5 water.
What could be more USian?

3·21 hours agoI wonder, if President Maduro is aware, and what he must be thinking, if he is.
I haven’t seen him in the news since he’s been kidnapped.

133·1 day agoBecause Democrats are on the same team as Republicans, and it’s not ours. And we’re just as ineffective, consumed by inertia.

4·2 days agoI suspect it’s more common than you may imagine. Fwiw, blood children are also treated this way.

Healing is available. It’s a slow, often painful, messy (non-linear process). But it’s doable. The alternative is stay sick, get sicker, perpetuate the cycle. You’re willing to talk about it a little, so it indicates the wounds haven’t yet calcified, and that’s a good sign. I encourage you to look into it, and various healing modalities.

In fact, I recommended starting with the basics, and exploring what help may be available to you until you stabilize*. But I have full faith in your capability to manage the journey.
Best to you, fellow traveler. 🫂

7·2 days agoDivorced parents/nasty custody battle/switching school/lunching alone, for a time. It was a long time ago, and I’ve worked through it, for the most part. My original parents never did, I think, but moved on, nonetheless. I used to feel sad for them but the more I age, the more I realize it’s probably for the best. Can’t mend together what we refuse to face, individually.

4·2 days agoI find that imagination can help with focus sometimes.
I’ll hazard an uneducated guess that it’s related to memetics (in the Blackmore/Dawkins sense), and/or epigenetics (which may be built on the framework of memetics).
Just another tool to maybe help navigate the unpredictable
Maybe no maybe. 😉 And maybe the predictable.

133·3 days agoMaggie Haberman could have made a little less by being a reporter-whistleblower-hero, but that would have been risking her skin and bank account balance, rather than growing that balance.
