Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft admits 8GB RAM is fine for Windows 11, after years of pushing 16GB as the baselineEnglish
32·2 days agoWhat I’m saying is, it shouldn’t take up space by default.
If YOU want to install it, great. You can spend 30 seconds installing the driver. Why force 99.99% of users to take on bloat, when they’ll never use it. Same thing with additional languages. If you speak other languages, great. You install them on your device. No reason I should have French installed on my device.
Now add the same idea with every bit of software. The OS itself should be bare minimum. Then you can add to your own installation.

It won’t run Windows 11, because I refuse to install such a rubbish invasive AI laced OS.

66·2 days agoI watch a Rerez video where he looks at force feedback flightsticks. These sticks came out around the year 2000, and use ports that modern PCs just don’t have.
He tried plugging one made by microsoft into windows 11. This stick was made 26 years ago. It just worked. No setup. No drivers. Just, 26 year old stick.
The reason? They’re still including drivers from Windows ME into Windows 11.
This is one very niche example, but the 300kb or whatever a driver size is, is being preinstalled in all windows 11 instalations. And Windows 10, and Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
I’m gonna guess you can count on one hand the number of people using this flight stick on Windows 11. It only works with a handful of games, because it only ever worked on a handful of games.
Why would this be included by default on Vista or later?
Imagine how many thousands of other files are like this. Taking up space, without a reason.

13·3 days agoThat’s not the same thing. Colbert didn’t tank the timeslot. He was the leader in ratings consistantly in his timeslot. All they had to do was NOT cancel the #1 in late night.
I’m less clear about the Xbox situation.

2·3 days agoI wish I could favorite one of my own comments, and instantly link to it.
I have had an analogy that I’m sick of typing, over and over and over. I came up with it in 2020 to teach people why the democrats don’t make actual progress.
And now, here, you’ve essentially summerized my analogy without even having read it. I wish I could just press 2 buttons and show you. But it’s like 5 paragraphs long. And I just typed it up again about a week ago when that algae thing went down.
I don’t know if it’s possible to search a users comment history by keyword, but I’d search mine for “paint, republicans, democrats, home depot” that should do it.

Technology@lemmy.world•GameStop CEO Cohen spurns $35 billion pay plan to focus on plan to buy eBayEnglish
271·3 days agoGamestop knows they serve no purpose in the gaming world anymore. What’s the point of buying physical, when it’s just a disc with the game version 1.0, and manditory day 1 updates? It makes it essentially a digital download with ewaste.
Ebay on the other hand has a future still existing.
Right now gamestop is a glorified novelty shop with a video games and pop culture theme. They know that business plan won’t last.
Ebay on the other hand, I can’t see any reason why they would be interested in anyway in this lowball offer.

If you created your own instance, running it on your own, and the Iranian government shut off your internet, YOU could still access the instance, since you’re on the same Lan inside your house…but how would other people access it if you don’t have internet?

If I’m understanding his comment, it doesn’t make sense at all. He wants people to discover new games…by playing the same big 4 games that everybody already plays, and aren’t unknown.
What?
I don’t even know where to start, to the point that I’m assuming I’m missing something here. Thats how little sense it makes. I’m at a point where the only logical conclusion is that I’m misunderstanding his statement.
Because otherwise…where do you even go from there? If you heard this guy saying these things on the bus, you’d just assume he’s mentally unwell.
