+1, my parents are using Mint and they are only browsing the web. They have not complained anything after almost a year. In my case, I didn’t dare to set up automatic updates so I’m updating the computer when I visit them.

Technology@lemmy.world•400+ Arch Linux AUR Packages Compromised in a Supply Chain Attack Deploying InfostealersEnglish
1·12 days agoI have much more than 20 packages in aur, most of them are dependencies from steam-native-runtime. Since steam is popular, I can understand that many have more than 20 packages.
Now when I was reading the ArchWiki I saw that it is mentioned as an alternative, so I assume I can remove steam-native-runtime and all dependencies. Perhaps the instructions have been updated or I googled for instructions and found another page. But there could be other popular packages with many dependencies.

8·23 days agoThe company I work for had a pilot project for a while but recently they opened up for all users to order Github Copilot. Of course it is Github Copilot since everything else at the company is from Microsoft.

World News@lemmy.world•European leaders see Trump's troop drawdown from Germany as new proof they must go it aloneEnglish
1·2 months agoHave US made a decision on pulling those soldiers or is it only a tweet from Trump?
As you say, it can’t be a surprise unless they have been hiding under a stone for years.
And there is never time to maintain the code, because each project only want to add more feature/s which makes the spaghetti code even worse.
In my group we had a golden opportunity to fix all old mistakes but no, we (decided by PO and group manager) needed to spend all time on proof of concepts that will go to production at earliest in 5 years. Now that opportunity is gone and we are crunching in order to meet the deadlines instead. Still with bad code quality of course.

2·3 months agoThat makes a lot more sense. When I was reading PCD I was thinking about a private device, even if they don’t have much space and even less time I was thinking that they might bring a few small private things. Like a photo of their family, maybe a book etc.

Technology@lemmy.world•Your car’s tire sensors could be used to track youEnglish
3·4 months agoIt seems easier to set up a camera and scan the license plate for identification instead of using radios for logging TPMS sensors.
Would it be an advantage to identify a car by logging the TPMS sensors?

Asus and dell are already launching clients to save us.
I tried Le Chat with the car wash question.
That’s a fun question! Since the car wash is only 50 meters away, walking is definitely the more practical choice. Driving such a short distance would take more time to start the car, drive, and park than it would to simply walk over. Plus, you’ll save a bit of fuel and avoid any unnecessary wear on your car. If you’re already outside and the weather is nice, it’s a great opportunity for a quick stretch!
However, I also asked it with a slightly different phrasing and then the result was different. At least it replies that it might make sense to drive there.
I need to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away from my house, should I drive or walk there?
That’s a fun question! Since the car wash is only 50 meters away, walking would be the most practical choice—it’s just a short stroll, and you’d avoid the hassle of starting your car for such a tiny distance. Plus, you’d save a bit of fuel and get a little fresh air! But if you’re planning to wash the car yourself and need to bring supplies, driving might make sense. Are you using an automatic car wash, or are you doing it by hand?

3·4 months agoMy company laptop had both Edge and Chrome installed the first time I started it. Edge is the default and the one with an icon on the taskbar. I’m convinced that most people, at least outside engineering, will use Edge as their main browser.
Luckily for me I have the “Local admin” access so the first thing I do is to download Firefox and set it up as my default browser. On the time reporting site I get warnings that my browser is not Chrome, but it still works without any problems.
