It has a self-reinforcing effect: it enforces the idea that this is normal and that the system is working as intended. Even though most of us know that this is only the case because the people who are supposed to hold him accountable are beholden to him, from the outside, it looks as though this is how things should be. This makes change seem hopeless and normalises tyranny, resulting in lasting damage and a chilling effect that will persist for years.

As long as there is no threat of accountability, there is no incentive to conceal corruption. By performing the act without defence in plain sight, it is legitimised and societal expectations are shifted.

• legalizing corruption
• firing workers without cause
• calling their voter base stupid
• refusing town halls to even hear their constituents concerns
• turning campaign donations into a personal slush fund
• deregulating telecom and tech

Couldn’t agree more, The both sides of the same argument ignores the very real change that is happening in America and may not change the Democratic party overnight but the differences are real and they’re starting to accumulate.

Now that’s definitely not where we should stop but those people in the right positions can buy us the space to make real change via direct action, unions and community support networks.

If anything we’re back sliding in the other direction and I think one of the most troubling things I’ve noticed is that workers don’t see unions as workers fighting together but another organization they can complain to.
