I have ADHD too and my smartphone is pure poison. It’s way too addicting. I long back for the days I could just zone out on the bus while listening to music.

I kinda like the phone. Would be a good phone for my daughter, but not at that price tag. I’d pay 150€ max.

Streaming remotely via tailscale is fairly easy. Cloudflare tunnel apparently works too, although it is against their ToS.

Can’t speak for Apple TV though. Setting up clients on Android based systems is as easy as entering the server address and then logging in.

The jellyfin service was super easy to set up. I just set up the container in Unraid and was done with that. Took me a minute or two.

The point of self-hosting is that you’re not dependent on a service from a company. You’re literally hosting the service yourself. Also with Plex. So essentially you’re paying them AND you’re doing the work for them.

And no, why would Jellyfin have to start charging? That’s the whole point of FOSS software. They get their money from donations and support programs and whatnot. They don’t have to succumb to the bullshit that is perpetual growth.

Students are extremely motivated and versatile. We wouldn’t survive without them at work. They’re definitely not ignorant.

Cloudflare doesn’t allow streaming large quantities of data through their tunnels. At least it’s against their ToS.

AirPods are earbuds, whereas the ones with tips that go into the ear channel are IEMs. The latter are better in every way in my opinion, but that doesn’t help if they hurt. I use foam tips, they give the best seal and comfort in my opinion.

What speaks against headphones? Like on-ear or over-ear headphones.

Re bubble: look at Lemmy.ml… just criticize China and you’ll be banned. They just keep telling each other that China is the best country on earth and no one will challenge that anymore, as everyone gets banned. It’s an extreme example but a pretty good one.

Re sickness: we’re a social species. That means interacting in real life. In real life you won’t have that many peers communicating with you all at once and you can gauge what your peers think by watching their body language. Online communication is all over the place and unfiltered. Humans haven’t evolved to process all of that information while still critically evaluating said Information. This leads to mental burnout, depression etc.

For the record, I am capable of limiting my exposure to this, because I grew up and witnessed the evolution of tech (born in 82). I’m also somewhat intelligent. I hold a Master’s in engineering, which requires a bit of intelligence. Many people only ever get basic education, if even that (not trying to sound condescending. Education is a privilege!). These people can’t handle this type of communication. That’s also the reason why they’re so easily manipulated by the right extremists.

Phones distract, phones nowadays have no headphone jack (fuck Bluetooth), Laptop isn’t very portable. I love having a dedicated device for music.

It’s social media. You’re putting yourself in a bubble. Humans never evolved for this kind of communication and it’s making us all sick.

Germany has the “Recht am eigenen Bild”, which is why street photography sucks balls here. But it’s a good law. Not sure if this covers “AI” related shit.
