KDE Plasma, as it’s most Windows-like and it has lots of cool widgets to add to your desktop Windows 7-style.

I’ve also tried Gnome, but I found it confusing and honestly a bit annoying. Not being able to properly minimise like I’m used to just really throws me off. I do think it looks pretty, though.

I’ve tried Cinnamon as well. I thought it looked a bit too cheap for my taste, at least by default on Mint.

I couldn’t get it to install… Something about ldconfig not being in the path.

EDIT: never mind, this is a barebones version (‘lmster’) anyway.

But going back to version 0.3.39-2 (which I found here) works perfectly, so great!

EDIT AGAIN: not quite perfectly. It wouldn’t start Gemma 4 giving an error about its architecture. Seems like it’s too new a model? I’m now trying 0.4.6-1 and this version does run Gemma 4.

You mean the Debian installer? Seems like a bad idea on OpenSUSE.

EDIT: looking in the bug reports on Github, I’ve found a very recent bug report identical to what I’ve described, so it doesn’t seem to be isolated at least.

It detects my hardware at least, but for whatever reason the Hub is empty and I can’t download the default Jan model… But it works when I import the models manually.

Thanks for the tips. How do I go about doing this? What I’ve tried is run LM Studio from the console with --no-sandbox. No idea if that has something to do with what you’re referring to.

This. Though to be fair, speaking as a Dutchman, our media are also still completely obsessed with American politics. Can’t blame that on Americans.

There’s no actual difference in meaning/etymology between ‘Diets’ and ‘Deutsch’. They’re both derived from Proto-Germanic *þiudiskaz, meaning ‘of the people’. Well into at least the seventeenth century, probably the eighteenth (I’m basing this off what I’ve read myself in primary sources) ‘Duits’ was still commonly used in the Netherlands as well. It was essentially part of a distiction between ‘Duits’ and ‘Waals’, where those who were ‘Waals’ were the ‘others’.
