Sadly that could actually happen at some point.
So, this is the place where I’m going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.
I’m also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I’m making this my primary Lemmy account now.
I’ll link the other socials I’m varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I’m demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.

I like my ‘breaking a stick’ analogy better, but yeah, that too.

That CEO has no room to talk about gaming being unaffordable and the industry ignoring the signs, when it’s that very industry that made it unaffordable to begin with.
You can’t claim ignorance of a problem you and your industry directly caused, Asha. You’re as complicit in this as the industry you’re saying is ignoring warning signs.
That’s like if I broke a stick in half in front of a bunch of people, and then tried to say I didn’t break that stick, when everyone saw me break that stick. Stupid analogy, I know, but that’s basically what Asha is trying to pull here.
Misskey/Sharkey seems like the best Fediverse Pinterest alternative that’s active that I’m aware of.
Otherwise Pixelfed will sorta work, but it’s meant mainly as an IG alternative.

Also, what if MS or the government starts getting hostile and taking down Linux and other FOSS repos they don’t like?
Well, Mint could just fall back to LMDE if Ubuntu starts going in the same direction as RHEL and starts account-walling their source code and blocking redistribution under the penalty of an account ban, but I don’t know about other Ubuntu clones.

Never gained ActivityPub support? Then how am I actively replying to ActivityPub posts and following ActivityPub accounts on Friendica?

Even Windows is KYC’d by default as consumer Windows generally requires an MS account now and setting up an MS account requires your DOB and may some day even require a face scan or your ID, and in addition there’s been active attempts to restrict Linux and BSD although the two laws of which I speak in Cali and Colorado ultimately exempted FOSS from their scope, and as for the Fediverse, the FBI raided a Mastodon server a while back so even that isn’t entirely safe, and Windows 365 is facilitating thin clients connected to rented servers, plus the ability to build a PC is actively being pushed out of reach of everyone who isn’t rich.

A dumb populace is easier to control.

Those laws have been gutted for years now.

Because Meta and probably Bloomberg too, bribed them.

We are moving towards an era of a more locked down web in the UK. The main flag here is “robust age verification” - i.e. we’re moving from “you must provide ID to view adult material on social media” to “you must provide ID to use social media”.
And then from there to you must provide ID to use your device and eventually you can only run (state-approved OS) on your device, assuming thin clients tied to rented servers, which would be then tied to your ID, don’t take over and kill off personal computing first.

Which is the idea, especially assuming it also targets the decentralized networks like the Fediverse. Like, will self-hosting Fediverse instances, and self-hosting anything at all even if it’s completely offline suddenly be criminalized there?
And what about open-source OSes like Linux and BSD? Will those also be targeted or will websites start blocking those OSes in UK borders now?

Let’s just hope the Fuhrer doesn’t ramp up his attacks on it in order to satisfy the fossil lobby.

Google’s also probably influencing Mozilla to turn Firefox into another Chromium. I wouldn’t be surprised if they buy out Mozilla just to kill Firefox and gain a total monopoly on the web.

Well, hypothetically a school could host their own instance that does exactly this, and maybe even hire local sysadmin talent for upkeep in the process.

AI companies lobbying to get this overturned in 3… 2… 1…

What if said manufacturers are funding this legislation so they can get it through as an opportunity to lock printers down? And what if this extends to 2D printers/scanners, and even software/devices in general?

What happened to free speech rights? They just don’t exist anymore?
You know what they say, no honor among thieves.
