The US has definitely tried to grow and influence protests, but its extremely reductive and mildly paternalistic to say its purely caused by foreign actors. Have you ever actually met an Iranian? I attended an Iranian Baha’i church for several meetings, and in my experience the central governments violent repression of anything that doesnt conform to its specific form of Islam is the primary motivator behind these protests. A new Iranian government will not be instant friends with the US, nor is the US in control of these protests. Its definitely trying to encourage and influence them, but its open question how much impact that is having.
