Awe yes the cops and DA fuck up and now the people will pay for it out their pockets. This shit needs to come out of their pension funds.

Or at least some form of insurance that the police pay for out of their own wallets (see malpractice insurance). That would also stop these chuds from jumping to a different county/department when they “accidentally” kill someone because theyd quickly become uninsurable.

“multiple people” to become “scared to send their kids to school”.

If they can’t back up that statement with testimony from multiple families, with corroborating school records, then that statement is a lie, and everything else that sheriff testifies to should be considered a lie, too.

I hope this lawsuit bankrupts that county’s entire law enforcement effort. Make them close down and offer no security to that county. They’d be safer without predators policing their thinking.

Even if it’s not a lie, it’s still not a crime. The sheriff should be held personally responsible for this, he should be prosecuted by the state, and the victim should personally sue him directly in civil court.

The sheriff will probably get an award for accelerating the moral purity or something.

Governor Lee deployed Tennessee highway patrol and national guard to the only majority black city in the state. To be clear, not Trump, or Noem. He was just wanting to “accelerate” he said.

This is a few counties over from where I’m at, but the biggest thing was Channel 5 News did an interview with the Sheriff and he basically admitted on air that the guy wasn’t guilty.

Like I can not stress how much the State’s county DA and Sheriff have fumbled this case and basically handed this guy a blank check.

And the thing is, while a majority of folks were okay at one point for punishing guy over his meme, the county has all but replaced all that with disgust how how terrible the cops have handled this.

Like they’re still upset about the meme, but nowhere near as upset with how self destructive the Sheriff’s department has been.

So they’re cool with blatant first amendment violations, they’re just pissed off that the government was sloppy about it?

Are they still mad enough about the meme to think he should have been arrested anyway, they just wish the government had been more competent when doing an authoritarianism?

Yes, exactly. It’s rural Tennessee. They don’t care about first amendment violations unless they’re personally affected by it.

I really miss the days when I barely ever heard about Charlie Kirk. He used to just be yet another interchangeable right-wing mouthpiece. Now he’s everywhere.

The folks in that county are going to have a new line on their tax bill when Bushart’s lawyers are done with them.

The sheriff & DA should be held criminally liable. This is very clearly a violation of constitutional rights under the color of law.

So, where are all those right wing “free speech” folk, and how about all those militias who were training to fight tyranny? Where are their voices?

Any decent lawyer can make the argument. Hell I could make the argument given enough time and a westlaw account. Look up free speech cases (prioritize, Tennessee cases) and your set.

Actually on reflection with how this administration has been acting it may not be that simple. Good luck to those fighting the good fight.

If we’re gonna get into rules lawyering, you’re in need of an edit before you’re set.

Unless you meant a list of songs.

Maybe a lawyer can help out here: What stops him from directly suing each individual that victimized him?

From the cop to the driver of the squad car to the person that fingerprinted him, why isn’t he directly approaching these people with lawsuits?

If he gets paid it will be his personal gain. No one will be punished for violating his rights, the system will not change. I don’t know why everyone is so happy about it. Is everyone counting on getting jailed and earning some money? Because this will not affect you in any way.

Not going to get very far, with so many judges either outright MAGA or just afraid for their families.
