    Warm water is the best hurricane fodder. The warmer the water, the stronger the storm.

      It’s not always that simple. Warmer atmosphere also makes stronger wind, and the wind shear makes it harder for hurricanes to organize into strong cyclones. Traditionally, El Niño years make stronger Pacific cyclones but weaker Atlantic ones.
