Facebook admitted they bot content and comments to keep the humans stuck in the maze interacting.
You know I actually wondered about if “content” creators work up an account and then sell it. There was this girl that would post videos about things in Japan, she had some noticeable pimples or whatever on her face. The last I saw it was heavily filtered pictures and now it’s about stuff in the US. Kinda like her image was copy pasted. I use facebook because siblings kids and stuff to keep up with it and occasionally watch language videos. As far as I’m concerned, facebook thinks I’m Japanese lol
Such seems to happen on Lemmy too (less so on PieFed due to tools built to counteract it) - see e.g. https://piefed.zip/c/strange_activity_investigations@piefed.zip/p/1788826/what-else-can-i-say and the community it is in - but far less often to almost not at all, vs. like every other post in those other more popular platforms.
