No it’s important. Imagine some party or coalition has very narrow control of your country’s parliament. Then one of the members dies, and another one is in the hospital and hasn’t been seen in weeks. So that control is teetering and the entire government might collapse if the control slips away. That’s not entirely a local story since what your country’s national government does will have effects all over the world.
Here in the US we have a separate executive branch so even if Trumps party loses control of Congress (= parliament), Trump himself is still the president, but it’s still a big change, it becomes much harder for him to get laws passed. That affects all sorts of things. Also, these guys (Graham and McConnell) have been around forever and are very influential. McConnell (the guy in the hospital) is the Senate majority leader, maybe of similar standing to the head of the opposition party in a parliamentary country, since the head of the governing party would be the PM. Still an important dude.
I don’t want to be morbid about it but it might help understand some of the other posts here.
To be fair, Democrats like Schumer and Jeffries ain’t exactly champing at the bit to go after MAGA and throw em all in prison and reverse all the shit they’ve done.
Removing the GOP from power is sadly just the first of many steps to fixing the myriad problems with this country.
are you high? this post has 124 upvotes. so…thats 124 people that care that a senator (which isnt local considering they vote on country-wide policy) is dead unexpectedly.
“Local politician”, he was governor of the State of South Carolina, and one of Trumps right hand men. His death should be wildly celebrated across the globe
I’d recommend making a reply if you changed your view so that the original is still visible (unless you said a slur or something that no one needs to see I guess.) Or I suppose you could just add to the bottom of the original post.

I’m really annoyed all your comments are deleted.
This is lemmy, there’s no penalties for downvotes. If it’s your opinion, leave it up, if you’ve changed your view, edit it.
I just figured that this discussion leads nowhere and also had nothing to learn from and i only get more complaints if left there.
There’s no “unsuscribe” or “ignore topic” on lemmy, no?
I guess I just have to take your word for it then?
As far as unsubscribe and whatnot, can only assume that might depend on your client? 🤷
Yeah but you delete a lot of your comments. Like so many of them that I recognize your name for it. Why?
Too much Lemmy and ADHD (oh wait, someone else wrote this already/that was unsensible/sensitive info/bullshit, lets quickly delete it).
