Might have to type “Pangolin software” but it essentially functions as a reverse proxy as well as a VPN to hide your home network IP when paired with a VPS.

Personally I prefer being able to just give someone a link without getting them to download and use a VPN. That’s why I went with Pangolin since it essentially functions as both.
I’ve been enjoying using Finamp for my Jellyfin server, although you will need a proxy if you want to use it outside of your home network. I’m paying $7 a month (it used to be $5 😭) for a VPS that’s running Pangolin tunneled to my home server running Jellyfin. It’s basically my own private Spotify/Netflix/Audible. There are also free options like Nginx for the proxy.
Pros:
- Open source with desktop/web/android apps
- Free/cheap once set up
- Functions like major streaming services but doesn’t come with their bullshit
- You have complete control over everything since it is self-hosted
Cons:
- Set up can be tough depending on your skill level
- Requires your own home server PC
- You must add all of your own content, be it through torrenting, ripping CDs, etc.
Same. I’m currently doing the mini PC media center. It’s nice but I don’t see my family doing something like that. It’s a bit too expensive and less plug and play than a $40 Roku/Chromecast unfortunately.

34·18 days agoI’ve been really happy with buying a ~$200 mini PC and putting OPNsense on it. You just have to make sure it has two Ethernet ports. OpenWRT is another great option if you don’t have the money for that.

Technology@lemmy.world•Plex increasing Lifetime Plex Pass cost to whopping $750English
3·1 month agoWhile Cloudflare tunnels do work, streaming Jellyfin through them is technically against their TOS and they could shut you down for doing so. Instead, I recommend setting up Pangolin with a cheap VPS. Although, it will cost ~$5 a month or so.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Me Buying A Phone From Google Solely Because I Can Put GrapheneOS On It
30·4 months agoThis is what I’m afraid of too. I could see apps like fdroid and the ability to install custom roms being taken away within the next year or two. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t have a good feeling. I need Linux phones to be a thing now more than ever.
There is an app on fdroid called SpamBlocker that I am using. It allows you to add spam call databases like the US’s do not call list, for example. You can also do other stuff like block numbers that don’t have a specific area code or that come from a specific state, etc.
It’s one of the Google WiFi white pucks. Unfortunately I’m not home at the moment to see the model number. I’ll look into that though, thank you.

5·5 months agoLibreWolf is awesome. I wish they had an android app, but I’ve been using IronFox since that’s what the LibreWolf developers suggest.

I’m not an expert on this subject or anything but from my understanding Caddy would still use your IP address. Using Pangolin with a VPS would give your website the VPS’s ip which is better for security reasons.
